This photograph was made on a shingle beach at Hayling Island on the south coast of England. I’ve never visited this location previously, but this exact viewpoint - accurate to within a few feet - was specifically chosen because of a unique relationship with my home in Nottingham. It lies exactly at the point where the land meets the sea, on an imaginary line of longitude drawn south from my home. Fortunately, whoever painted the beach huts had chosen some beautiful analogous maritime blues, imbuing the scene with a degree of calming monochromatic simplicity and complementing the warmth of the twilight cloudscape.
